This is a tough one, what can you really say about a book that has
consistently garnered ten out of ten reviews over the last year?
Well the answer is… not much that hasn’t already been
said. But hopefully by the end of this review I will have convinced
one more person to take a look at this great comic.
To write a synopsis or rundown of what this comics’ storyline
entails would be kind of pointless. There’s no twists, no
amazing plots which you’ll pull your hair out trying to figure
out, there is just honesty, the brutal honesty of family.
We all have family, some we hate, some we love, and this is the
heart of this work. It focuses on the authors favourite
Uncle and flows out from there. It will make you take stock
of your own life, it will make you think about your relationships
and it will challenge you.
The artwork is all black and white, but don’t let that be
a turn-off. Pedro Camello manages to capture the
mood of the story perfectly. His facial expressions are
great and the bold strokes of his linework distinguish
his characters flawlessly from their backgrounds. His ability to
draw locations is also impressive and you truly feel like you are
watching somebody’s life story unfold before your eyes.
A great slice of life book with touches of humour and tragedy side
by side. The proof that our lives sometimes make for the best stories
after all.
Score 10/10
