The second arc in this new team oriented series really gets cracking
as Brother Blood’s plans start to unveil
themselves and the Outsiders find themselves in a head on collision
with his worldwide cult.
The Outsiders have found Brother Blood’s cults’ secret
hideout, which has promptly self-destructed. Indigo however has
managed to grab a large amount of data from the computer system
and now the team is finding out just what Blood and his cult members
plan to do, and it’s not going to be pretty…
This series has managed to improve with its second story
arc as the team settles into a nice rhythm. Judd
Winick [Green Lantern, Exiles]
has managed to maintain a sense of humour and freshness with his
characters which helps to make this a really fun read. Don’t
be mistaken though, there is also enough action and a ton of high
drama to go around as well. This balance of storytelling elements
and the engaging dialogue makes this one of the better mainstream
superhero team books around.
Art duties have been taken over by Chriscross [Captain
Marvel] since the previous issue and I must say I was quite
disappointed as Tom Raney [Thor]
was doing a great job on this book and I can’t wait until
he returns. Chriscross has done an adequate job on visuals over
the past two issues, however in this issue one thing does concern
me. Action scenes don’t seem to be his forte. They come out
looking rushed and unfinished and with ‘speed lines’
blocking out a lot of needed detail. His ability to draw the characters
when standing around and talking is fine, but when drawing
such an action-orientated series such as this I would expect a lot
more from him than what he has delivered.
A fun action-packed team based superhero book. If you’re tired
of the soap operas in the Uncanny X-Men books and just want some
fun superhero reading then give this a try.
Score 6/10
