The absolutely outstanding brilliance that is 100 Bullets delivers
a whacking great dose of gun-slinging goodness
in this the fourth collection of the Eisner Award winning series
by Vertigo Comics.
It’s hard to pin down a synopsis for a collection like this
one, it’s a whopping eleven issues in length [#20-30] and
covers a whole ton of story content. A quick rundown is in order
though, so here it is: Gang bangers, drug addicts, smugglers, gamblers,
Godfathers, vixens, sportsmen, Presidents, hookers, secret agents,
petrol attendants and Latinos all play their part, telling you anything
more would just spoil it.
This is the fourth and biggest collection yet of
this ongoing series. With an awesome opening essay focused on the
success of the series and it’s place in American Literature
to it’s inclusion of all of Dave Johnson’s masterful
cover art, this is a great buy at $17.95 [R215], not to mention
the eleven issues of 100 Bullets greatness that’s squeezed
in between the covers as well.
It’s all in here, the storyline finally starts revealing those
secrets you’ve been yearning to know more about since the
first issue and new seeds are sown for what is fast becoming one
of the most involved crime fiction comic stories ever told.
Brian Azzarello [Jonny Double, Batman]
has such an eye for detail and such a great memory of his creation
that minor characters pop up in issue #30 which pertain all the
way back to issue #1 and you suddenly see just how involved
and real this comic feels in it’s scope.
The attention to detail in creation by both Risso and Azzerello
has created one of the defining comics of our time. If
you haven’t yet picked this comic up then please do and I
guarantee you won’t be sorry you did.
Score 10/10
