The major crossover of the decade continues this month with another 48 page mammoth prestige-format comic for the true superhero fans.

The game between Krona and The Grandmaster is played out by the oblivious super-teams of two worlds. In a race to find the twelve most powerful objects/artifacts known to mankind which team will rise up and which one will fall? Is there some other game being played out at the same time that both groups are unaware of? It’s Superman vs. Thor and Captain America vs. Batman as the mayhem reaches an all new level.

I have been pleasantly surprised by the change this book has undergone in this second issue. The first installment was somewhat marred by a thin if not downright silly sounding storyline. This issue starts off with a great piece of back story which helps to explain away a lot of the stupidity and really gets you hooked into the story.

If all the credits went to George Perez [Solus] for the 1st issue then most of the credit for the second should shift to [Conan: The Legend, Arrowsmith]. The storyline might be big, bold and somewhat corny but Busiek manages to convince us to care and get excited within the pages of this issue.

But don’t worry the art is still of a very high standard, if not still a bit too retro for my liking, but now the story is starting to match up. It’s good to see that the series is turning out better than I expected as both of these creators deserve it and the fans have demanded it. It would have been a shame for all the hype to be wasted on a sub par comic. Kudos to all involved for stepping it up a level and a special mention should go to the production team for producing a high quality piece of merchandise, good job.

This mini series has officially taken off and hopefully it’ll stay up in the clouds. Let’s hope this ends with a bang we’ll all remember for years to come.

Score 8/10
